sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the re-
ceipt of your telegram of the 14th. instant enquiring the
acreage and Colonial Secretary's Valuation of three sections
of the area proposed to be devoted to the King's Park.
In view of the fact that the divisions
2.
implied in your telegram have never been defined and have no
existence on any plan or otherwise it was difficult to under-
stand what the precise boundaries of the respective sections
should be.
I preferred therefore not to hazard any
information as to acreage which might only have proved mis-
leading and could in no case be definite.
I therefore telegraphed a valuation by the
Colonial Secretary covering the whole area of the Park leaving
the sub-divisions to be defined by you.
3.
I added to my telegram that if the area
proposed for the Park be valued as building land, this Govern-
ment, relinquishing the idea of a Park, must sell the land for
building Chinese houses.
The Colony is not in such a financial
position
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE
COLONIES.
